History

Clane RFC was founded in 1984 by Xavier Flanagan, Roger Sweetman and Hart Dorsch. The club's first playing pitches were made available by the local parish at Fr. Hennessy's field on the Prosperous Rd. Following this a period was spent on pitches provided by Harry Farrell in Ballinagappa and then the club subsequently moved to its current grounds closer to the town on Ballinagappa road in 1992.

The club's first senior team was fielded in 1993, initially in the North Midlands area Junior 4 competition. A team was entered in the Leinster League for the first time in 1995, and the backbone of this team won three J3 area Speirs cups over the next few years.

The following years saw promotion to division 2 (2000/01) and division 1 (2001/02) of the LL and two J1 area Hosie cups (2000/01 against Portlaoise and 2001/02 against Athy, which was also the official opening of our clubhouse facilities), as well as the development of a competitive J2 team that landed two area J2 Lalor cups.The senior side currently resides on division 3.
